Wolly mammoths are herd animals related to elephants but specially adapted to cold conditions. They are not typically dangerous when encountered in the wild but can be a force to be reackoned with if attacked or in defense of their young. Woolly mammoths have exceptionally long memories and have been known to nurse a grudge over years against past aggressors.

Woolly mammoths are sometimes trained as mounts by frost giants and ogres. In such cases they are often armed with spikes or blades on their tusks to enhance their ability to attack.
