Half-Elf

Half-elves, as their name implies, are the offspring of humans and elves. Half-elves are most common in Athalin, as ambitious humans move in the circles of the elven aristocracy. Half elves are also common in karalon as wild elves mate with natives or westerners.

Half-Elves have curiosity and ambitions like humans but they have sense for magic and love for nature like their elven parents. Their skin is paler than human skin and are slightly taller and more comely than humans. Half elves can pass for humans relatively easily. If they chose to, half elves can also be easily mistaken for full blooded elves in regions where elves are rarely seen. Elves are usually much more conscious of the presence of a half-elf but are less likely to stigmatize them.

Half-elves do well with elves, humans, gnomes, dwarves, and halflings, a social ease reflected in racial bonuses to the Diplomacy and Gather Information skills. In the case of conflicts between elves and humans, however, each side suspects a half-elf mediator of favoring the other. The drow despise them, referring to them as 'Mongrels' or 'half-breeds'. Ironically half-drow are common wherever drow raids occur against humans. Half-drow are statistically identical to ordinarly half elves but are dark skinned and are usually pathologically solitary. They eek out an existance on the frenges of society acting as common thieves, thugs, or assassins.

Half-elves are incidental in the course of history, they have no empires or lands of their own but they do have a certain sense of camaraderie with others of their kind. Occasionally small groups will gather together within a wider community.

Multitalented: Half-elves may at first level select either one or two favored classes, if they select a single favored class they receive both +1 skill point and +1 hit point (rather than one or the other) any time they take a level in their favored class regardless of what is is. Alternately half-elves may choose two favored classes at first level and gain +1 hit point or +1 skill point whenever they take a level in either one of those classes.
